I find it worrisome that we (as a society, it seems) are trying to
protocolize EVERY aspect of care along these lines.

At SOME point, the patient needs a clinician (and it can be a doc, NP, PA,
medical student..just SOMEone) to exercise clinical reasoning and
judegment.

It seems like by promoting the protocols for EGDT and other therapies, we're
abdicating responsibility to the patient.  Suddenly NO ONE has to take care
of the patient anymore.  I don't want my residents to look to a chart like
this to say, "oh well, they do or do not meet "criteria".  I want them to
KNOW how to interpret lab values.  And I expect the same out of my ICU
nursing staff.

We're getting lazy by having everything pre-defined.
